Backend Software Engineer (Java | AI-Assisted Engineering)

About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, and modernise enterprise backend systems using Java (Spring Boot) and Python. You will build scalable microservices, backend APIs, internal platforms, and integration services that support business operations across the organisation.As part of our engineering transformation, you'll also leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve software quality, accelerate delivery, and enhance engineering productivity.If you enjoy solving complex backend challenges, modernising legacy systems, and building scalable solutions, we'd love to hear from you.Key ResponsibilitiesBackend DevelopmentDesign, develop, maintain, and enhance backend applications using Java (Spring Boot) and Python.Develop scalable RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend services.Build internal platforms, middleware services, ETL pipelines, and integration solutions that improve business operations.Modernise legacy systems through refactoring and continuous improvement initiatives.Troubleshoot and resolve application, database, and system integration issues.Optimise application performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.AI-Assisted EngineeringLeverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to improve engineering productivity.Utilise AI for code generation, testing, debugging, documentation, and automation.Review AI-generated code to ensure quality, security, maintainability, and compliance with engineering standards.RequirementsRequired QualificationsMinimum 5 years of backend software development experience.Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices.Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile software development practices.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience with any of the following will be an advantage:PythonDocker and KubernetesCloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)Observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog)System integration, middleware, or ETL developmentAI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or GitHub CopilotWhy Join Us?Work on modern Java microservices and enterprise backend platforms.Build systems that directly improve business operations across multiple regions.Gain hands-on experience with AI-assisted software engineering.Contribute to platform modernisation and digital transformation initiatives.Collaborate with a supportive engineering team that values innovation and continuous learning.Grow your career through exposure to modern technologies and challenging engineering projects.
