About Helpurr Helpurr is building AI-powered tools to help cat owners and veterinarians catch health problems earlier. Cats are notoriously difficult to read — they hide discomfort instinctively, and by the time symptoms are obvious, conditions have often progressed. Our mobile app uses computer vision to read signals owners can't easily see — facial signs of pain, breathing rate, and other health indicators tracked over time — giving them an objective tool to support timely veterinary care. We're a small, early-stage team based in Hong Kong, working at the intersection of veterinary science and machine learning. The Role We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer to own our cloud backend and DevOps and our mobile app across iOS and Android. The cloud is the backbone of everything we ship — data, async processing, real-time delivery, and secure ingest from a growing range of clients — and it's more than a CRUD API. You'll define how it's built, deployed, secured, and monitored. On mobile, the product is iOS-first today, built on a single cross-platform codebase. You'll keep iOS healthy and shipping while bringing the app to Android — mostly closing platform gaps, bridging a small on-device computer-vision layer, and shipping to a new store, so deep Android specialization is a plus, not a prerequisite. This is a high-ownership role. If you like owning connected systems end to end rather than working a ticket queue, this is a good fit. What You'll Do Own the cloud backend: data modeling, storage, access rules, serverless services, clean dev/staging/prod separation, and the queued pipelines that turn media uploads into processed results as volume grows Own the mobile app on iOS and Android: keep the iOS app healthy and shipping, and bring our cross-platform app to Android (including a native module bridge for our on-device computer-vision code) and onto the Play Store Build real-time infrastructure: low-latency streaming and persistent client connections alongside the request/response backend; build or integrate managed services as makes sense Authenticate every client: auth, ingest, and credential lifecycle for both signed-in users and non-user (machine) clients writing into the backend Own DevOps and operations: CI/CD, build and release automation, over-the-air updates, app-store flows, monitoring, alerting, and keeping cloud spend (compute, storage, egress) in check as usage grows Move ML inference server-side: adapt parts of our on-device signal processing to run as cloud jobs on uploaded media, with the data scientist owning the models Collaborate across the team: keep client and backend data schemas in sync, and work with founders on product and infrastructure decisions

What We're Looking For 5+ years of experience building and operating production mobile/backend systems, with real ownership of cloud infrastructure (not just feature work on top of it) — you've personally stood up and run a system, not just shipped features inside someone else's Strong TypeScript/Node.js: our app, backend functions, and tooling are all TypeScript Hands-on cloud platform experience: Firebase/GCP preferred, but deep AWS/Azure experience transfers; you should be comfortable with serverless compute, object storage, NoSQL data modeling, and queue-based architectures Real-time instincts: ideally you've built or operated low-latency streaming (WebRTC) or persistent-connection services (WebSocket, MQTT) and understand their scaling and cost; if not, you have the fundamentals and the appetite to own this as it grows Strong React, ideally React Native / Expo: you're fluent in React; RN/Expo experience is the ideal on-ramp to owning our app, but a strong React engineer ready to take on the mobile toolchain (Expo/EAS, store releases) can ramp in DevOps fluency: CI/CD, environment management, release automation, and monitoring are things you set up, not things you wait for Security mindset: you think about auth flows, access rules, and credential lifecycle by default Comfort with ambiguity: small team, no dedicated infra org; you can scope your own work, make pragmatic build-vs-buy calls, and iterate without heavy direction

Nice to Have Android / native experience (Kotlin, C++/JNI, native modules, Play Store operations, NNAPI/TFLite): we build with React Native rather than separate native apps, so this is a plus, not a requirement Experience with Expo and EAS (builds, updates, workflows) Familiarity with on-device or server-side ML deployment: model packaging, inference services, media processing pipelines Experience integrating third-party APIs and SDKs (auth, payments, analytics, push) Background in cost-aware infrastructure design: you've sized and trimmed a cloud bill before A soft spot for cats: you don't need one at home, but caring about the animals we build for helps; a cat of your own to test on is a bonus

What We Offer Hong Kong-based, hybrid: work from home most of the time, with regular co-working days together in Hong Kong. This role is on the ground with us. Full-time position with competitive compensation Real impact on animal welfare: the systems you build will carry health data that helps pets get care sooner Early-stage ownership: small team, no bureaucracy, direct influence on product and technical direction Greenfield platform work: you'll architect the cloud foundation as the product grows, not maintain someone else's legacy

How to Apply Send your resume and a brief note about a system you've built and operated — a backend, a pipeline, a release process you're proud of. Links to repos, write-ups, or postmortems are welcome. We care more about what you've actually shipped and kept running than where you went to school.
