The Sales Engineer connects with the company technical pre-sales with its commercial motion. Working alongside the Solutions Architect, who owns the technical pre-sales and pilot delivery, the Sales Engineer helps frame opportunities, shape the sales position, prepare the materials that move a deal forward, and helps run the sales process day to day, in support of the Chief Executive Officer’s selling. This is a hands-on, supporting role for someone with a technical foundation and commercial curiosity who wants to build a career in technical sales. It carries enough technical depth to support demonstrations and translate customer requirements, and enough commercial involvement to help qualify, position and progress opportunities. It is a development path towards a Solutions Architect or a broader commercial role over time. Our company sells its cloud product today. Sovereign and air-gapped deployment for secure infrastructure environments is in development as a coming capability, and the role should be able to speak to where the product is heading. Key activities Pre-sales support. Support the Solutions Architect in preparing and running demonstrations, including setting up environments and tailoring each demonstration to the customer’s requirements. Opportunity framing. Help translate a customer’s needs into a clear opportunity, mapping their problem to the company workflow and articulating the value. Sales materials. Prepare proposals, scoping documents, follow-up notes and the collateral that moves a deal from conversation to pilot. Qualification support. Gather and organise the information needed to qualify an opportunity. Sales process operation. Keep the CRM current, track opportunities, schedule follow-ups, and keep deals moving through the pipeline. Customer liaison. Be a responsive point of contact for prospects through the sales process, coordinating between the customer, the Solutions Architect and the rest of the team.
Accountabilities and responsibilities Pre-sales readiness. Responsible for demonstrations and pre-sales materials being prepared, accurate and ready on time. Opportunity quality. Responsible for opportunities being well framed and well documented as they move through the sales process. Pipeline hygiene. Responsible for accurate, current CRM and pipeline records. Coordination. Responsible for smooth coordination between the technical and commercial activity on each deal. Commercial support. Supports the Chief Executive Officer on commercial terms, negotiation and closing.
Skills, background and experience Capability is assessed on demonstrated outcomes, not years served. Qualifications Degree in an engineering, technical or commercial discipline, or equivalent demonstrated capability.
Background Some exposure to technical sales, pre-sales, applications engineering or another technical customer-facing role, or a technical background with a clear interest in moving into technical sales. Familiarity with hardware, FPGA, semiconductor or EDA concepts, or the ability to get up to speed quickly.
Capabilities Enough technical understanding to support demonstrations and talk credibly with engineers. Well organised, with strong attention to detail across materials and CRM. Clear written and verbal communication. Proactive and responsive: keeps deals and follow-ups moving. Keen to learn and grow in a technical-sales career.
